Reconnecting Accounts

OAuth tokens expire periodically. Here is how to reconnect your social accounts when that happens.

Why accounts disconnect

Social media platforms issue OAuth tokens that grant SocialWhisper permission to post on your behalf. These tokens can expire for several reasons: the platform revokes them after a certain period, you change your password on the platform, you revoke app permissions manually, or the platform updates their API. This is normal and happens with all social media management tools.

How to reconnect

When an account is disconnected, it will show a warning in your Social Accounts settings. Navigate to Settings → Social Accounts and click the reconnect button next to the affected account. You will go through the standard OAuth flow again to re-authorize SocialWhisper.

What happens to scheduled posts

If a social account is disconnected when a scheduled post is due to publish, the post will fail for that specific platform. If you have other connected platforms, the post may still publish successfully to those, resulting in a Partially Published status. Reconnect the account and retry the failed platform if needed.

Preventing disconnections

While you cannot prevent token expiration entirely, avoid changing your social media passwords frequently, and do not revoke app permissions on the platform side. SocialWhisper automatically refreshes tokens when possible, but some platforms require re-authorization regardless.

Tip: Check your social accounts page periodically to catch any disconnected accounts before they cause failed posts.
